Amos Trust is a small, creative human rights organisation.
For over 40 years, we’ve worked with grassroots partners in Palestine, South Africa, Mexico, Central America and beyond — challenging injustice, building hope and amplifying the voices of those too often ignored.

  1. Free Marwan campaign

Marwan Barghouti has been unjustly imprisoned by Israel for over two decades, convicted in a trial by a court he did not recognise. Despite his imprisonment, poll after poll show he’s Palestine’s most popular leader. A powerful symbol of unity and a long-time advocate for freedom and dignity for the Palestinian people.

“What is happening to Marwan Barghouti is exactly the same as what happened to me.” Nelson Mandela in 2002

A violation of justice
For more than 50 years, Marwan has played a central political role in the struggle against Israel’s ongoing occupation of Palestinian land — an occupation the International Court of Justice has ruled as unlawful and said must end.

On 15th April 2002, Israeli soldiers disguised in an ambulance seized Marwan from Ramallah, where he was serving as a political leader and elected parliamentarian. He was taken to Israel in violation of the Geneva Conventions and later convicted in a trial widely condemned as illegitimate and politically motivated.

“If the price of my people’s freedom is my own freedom, I’m willing to pay that price.” Marwan Barghouti

The Inter-Parliamentary Union—representing over 181 national parliaments —found “numerous breaches of international law” in his case, and concluded it was “impossible to say that Mr. Barghouti received a fair trial.”

When hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners were released as part of the Gaza negotiations, Israel refused to consider one name: Marwan Barghouti — not for anything he has done, but because of what he represents: hope. Hope for Palestinian unity, democratic renewal, and a credible path towards justice and peace.

Co-founder of the BDS — Omar Barghouti

Omar holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, New York, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Philosophy (Ethics) at the University of Amsterdam. He is the author of BDS: The Global Struggle for Palestinian Rights (Haymarket, 2011).

His writing and interviews have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, the Guardian and on BBC, Bloomberg TV, MSNBC and CNN, among others.

“BDS is perhaps the most ambitious, empowering and promising Palestinian-led global movement for justice and rights. BDS has the capacity to challenge Israel’s colonial rule and apartheid in a morally consistent, effective and, crucially, intelligent manner.” Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the BDS movement

About BDS
BDS — Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions — is a global, Palestinian-led movement using economic and cultural pressure to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law. It’s modelled on the movement that helped end apartheid in South Africa. And like that movement, it works because ordinary people — not just governments — can take action.
