Street Child World Cup

The Street Child World Cup is an ongoing campaign putting street children at the forefront of global events, making their voices heard.

We set up the first Street Child World Cup in Durban South Africa in 2010 with our partners Umthombo Street Children who hosted a football tournament and street child conference for teams of street children from around around the world. The high profile of the event resulted in changes in policy and treatment of street children by several governments of participating nations, including the end of the violent practice of rounding up street children in South Africa. The Durban Declaration, a manifesto written by the street children at the conference was later presented to the UN Committee on Human Rights.

The Street Child World Cup is now a global campaign, but is continues to be a key part of our work campaigning for the rights of street children around the world. The next Street Child World Cup tournament and conference will be held in Rio, Brazil in 2014 in the run up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Building on the success of Durban 2010, Brazil 2014 is set to be even bigger with teams from 20 countries taking part in separate boys and girls tournaments.
