Ana Hartmann was born in Chiriquí, Panama. She is a Panamanian social activist, passionate about justice, who believes in the strength of communities and the power of social transformation.

For Ana, the land is more than a geographical space — it is full of history and woven with memories. Her land, Chiriquí, embodies fertility, tradition and ancestral wisdom. It represents effort and struggle, coffee and volcanoes, and a working identity rooted in the land.

“If my land could speak, it would say that even though I seek to discover the world, I always return to it.”
Ana Hartmann

For her, climate justice means defending life in all its forms. It recognises that the climate crisis most deeply affects those who did the least to cause it and that a sustainable future depends on equity, dignity, and empowerment for all communities.

Ana’s project

In Chiriquí, Panama, Indigenous, Afro-descendant and rural women face many challenges, including the effects of climate change, exclusion from decision-making, and a long history of marginalisation.

This project will support 30 women leaders by creating safe, independent spaces where they can meet, learn from each other, and strengthen their leadership — particularly in climate resilience and community communication.

Through workshops and the launch of a new Ecofeminist Community Radio, participants will share their voices, pass on traditional and local knowledge, and advocate for environmental justice with a focus on gender, race, and decolonisation.

The project builds trust, solidarity and healing among women while affirming their rootedness in culture and lived experience. By nurturing strong networks of women leaders, the initiative empowers participants to protect their land, lead climate action, and create long-term, community-driven change — contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future.
