Other ways to donateIn September 2023, the second-ever Street Child Cricket World Cup was held in Chennai, India, with reigning champions and Amos partner, Karunalaya, as the host city team.
Karunalaya used the event to challenge gender-based violence against girls and women living on Chennai’s streets, equip them to live the lives they dream of and highlight the rights of all children and families living in pavement-dwelling communities.

“We want to use this opportunity to show our talent in sports and speak out against the discrimination and violence we've experienced. Everyone is against us because we come from pavement-dwelling communities, but that needs to change.” Priya
The legacy continues
The last ball may have been bowled in the 2023 Street Child Cricket World Cup, but Karunalaya’s work on the streets of Chennai continues daily to champion the rights of girls and women.
The tournament was more than a sporting event — it was a platform for empowerment, visibility and change. The girls who participated returned to their communities with new confidence, skills and recognition. The money raised allowed Karunalaya to take this success back into the pavement-dwelling communities these children come from.
“Cricket has changed my life completely. Because nobody respected us when we were living on the streets. But now, because of cricket, it has changed my life, now people respect us.” Monisha
