With the commemoration of the second year of the Tsunami, Amos partner the Tamarind Tree project, in southern Tamil Nadu, still needs to respond to the legacy of the disaster. While the Tamarind Project work has increased drastically over the last two years and there are exciting plans for the future, there are still large numbers of houses needing to be rebuilt and many children who were orphaned two years ago are still waiting for a suitable home.   read more…

Jacob reported at the end of October: 'The Tsunami affected villages and places were terribly affected by the recent monsoon, villages were heavily flooded; poor people - those who had begun to rebuild their lives and family - were again marred by flood water and their hopes are shattering again and again. We are planning for a commemoration/thanksgiving service on 26th December 2005 (one year) or the families - those who lost their beloved ones - and for the people and organisations involved in and working hard for the reconstruction process'.   read more…

Following the devastating tsunami at the end of 2004, we have been involved in helping to rebuild people's homes and lives in Tamil Nadu, India. In conjunction with Jacob Devadason, we are looking at ways to continue our support as the reconstruction goes on, and Garth Hewitt will be visiting India in July to see for himself how the work is progressing.  read more…

The project which Amos Trust supports in Tamil Nadu, India has - by the grace of God - not been directly affected by the Boxing Day tsunami and consequent devastation, since the village where the Tamarind Project is based is some miles inland. However, the whole state of Tamil Nadu has been affected by this terrible situation, and we have received an urgent request for help from Jacob and Jasmine Devadason - our contacts and links with the Tamarind Project.  read more…

The 2004 Greenbelt Festival audience were shocked when a planned visit organised by Christian Aid of their partner Annie Namala together with 3 drummers and dancers from the Dalit community (whom Garth Hewitt and Paul Field had worked with on their album 'The Dalit Drum') ended up as a visit by Annie only, as the drummers and dancers were not granted 12-day visas to enter the UK.  read more…

Towards the end of 2003 we took on a new project (the Tamarind Project), working with the India New Hope and New Life Trust in Gomathimuthupuram in South India. This works with the local Dalit community (previously known as the 'untouchables'), providing resources to support education.  read more…
