S3, E9: Right To Movement – Run The Wall

Right To Movement — Run The Wall
Thursday 25th March 2021

On the eve of Amos Trusts Run The Wall challenge, we were joined by Diala Isid and George Zeiden from Right To Movement, a Palestinian running collective that uses sport to challenge restrictions on Palestinian movement and assert their right to run freely in their own land.

For Palestinians, running is political. Israeli checkpoints, the Separation Wall and closed military zones make even basic movement difficult — let alone the freedom to run for exercise or sport. Right To Movement reclaims that freedom, organising runs through Jerusalem, Bethlehem and the West Bank as acts of resistance and joy.

Run The Wall invited supporters in the UK to run in solidarity, covering distances that mirrored the barriers Palestinians face. We heard from Diala in Nottingham and George in Jerusalem about what running means under occupation, and were joined by UK runners Esta MacInnes and spoken-word performer Harry Baker sharing their reasons for taking part.
