Quiet Days: Sheffield

Saturday 30th March 2019
We think people are struggling; with the current political situation, with war, with violence, with how we treat refugees, and of course, with the situation in Palestine and Israel. We thought it would be useful to have some ‘Quiet Days’ — to reflect, to pause, and to be reminded of the key principles of justice and spirituality. A day to renew our strength and our vision.

Quiet Days: Sheffield

Saturday 30th March 2019

St Aidan's Church, 2 Manor Lane, Sheffield S2 1UF
Directions

There is an ancient peace, you carry in your heart
You carry in your heart and have not lost

There is a silence there, the world cannot intrude
The world cannot intrude into your heart
Our hearts must be so quiet if we are to hear
If we are to hear, we must be still.

The idea:
We think people are struggling; with the current political situation, with war, with violence, with how we treat refugees, and of course, with the situation in Palestine and Israel. We thought it would be useful to have some ‘Quiet Days’ — to reflect, to pause, and to be reminded of the key principles of justice and spirituality. A day to renew our strength and our vision.

Amos Founder Garth Hewitt says,
“Recently at concerts when chatting with people I have found that many are struggling with the current world situation. I thought it might be useful to have a few ‘Quiet Days’ that might give us time to pause. It would be a time to take stock, to reminisce, to be reminded of our roots, and deliberately to take time to be quiet, make time for prayer, liturgy, music and reflection.

When the idea was discussed, I found that it seemed to be ringing bells for people. We’re calling the day, “There is an Ancient Peace”, a song that’s on ‘Moonrise’ and ‘Songs from the Fifth Gospel’, which is rooted in the Garden of Gethsemane.”

The day:
10:00 am refreshments for a 10:30 am start — finishing around 4:00 pm. Please bring food for a bring and share lunch — tea and coffee will be provided. There is a maximum of 30 places available so please book early.
