Royal Parks Half Marathon 2019

Royal Parks Half Marathon — London
Sunday 13th October 2019

Join Team Amos and run the Royal Parks Half Marathon through London this October and raise funds for Amos’ On Her Terms campaign. If you’re new to running or want to beat your PB, this is a great challenge and an opportunity to run in solidarity for girls and young women.

It’s a 13-mile run through London’s most beautiful and iconic parks — Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. What we especially love about this race is that it’s one of the most environmentally friendly half marathons in the UK.

And with a food and fitness festival running alongside the marathon itself, your friends and family will have plenty of fun waiting for you to finish — after they’ve cheered you on as you speed past them of course!

Why run for Amos Trust?

On Her Terms is transforming the lives of girls and young women on the streets so that they can be free from abuse. We are journeying with them as they take control of their own lives, challenging the injustice they experience daily.

Before running in the marathon, I didn’t know a woman could run faster than a man. Here I saw women overtaking men — even I overtook men in the race! I learned that when women decide to do something, nothing can stop them.” Grace, 16

Grace took part in the first Zanzibar Half Marathon for gender equality. With support, Grace left the streets where she had been raped and abused. The Zanzibar Half was the first time she left her hometown Mwanza, Tanzania and the first time she took part in a race. She wanted to run to champion women’s rights.

If you raised £350

  • By raising £350, you’ll be helping our partners in South Africa, India, Burundi and Tanzania, provide space for girls and young women to wash their clothes, shower and speak to a woman worker about their lives.

  • Sounds basic but for girls and young women on the streets, maintaining personal hygiene and washing their clothes is almost impossible. By enabling young women a place to wash, simply gives them dignity. From this point, they can begin to grow self confidence and self-worth.

If you raised £500

  • By raising £500, you could support the female workers who work with girls and young women every day. Their work involves going into abandoned buildings, navigating past, sometimes abusive boyfriends, pimps and brothel owners to reach the girls to help them realise their rights, identify what they want and how they want to transform their lives.

  • These women are the experts and need to share their skills and expertise with other workers around the world in how programmes delivered on girls’ terms are most effective.

If you raised £1000

  • By raising £1000, your fundraising could go towards supporting the costs of running a centre where girls can be safe away from the streets, work intensively with a worker to process the trauma she has experienced on the streets, go to school or learn a vocation and build her self-worth so she can speak up for the rights of other girls who are experiencing situations like hers.
