Women 4 Women 2020

October is breast cancer awareness month (or Rosy October as they call it in Gaza). We’re asking woman in the UK to stand in solidarity with women in Gaza by hosting a virtual fundraising event throughout October, November and December, or by donating to our Women 4 Women Appeal. Just £60 provides breast cancer screening for a woman in Gaza. Thank you for your support.

Every year, to mark breast cancer awareness month (or Rosy October as it’s called in Gaza), we ask women to come together to do something they love, to raise awareness and vital funds to help the women of Gaza to access the breast cancer screening programme at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.

Past events have included coffee mornings, art exhibitions, gigs, Palestinian dinners, clothes swaps, exhibitions, gin tasting, marathons, interactive installations and church services.

This year, all our worlds look different and we might not be able to get together in quite the same way, but perhaps now more than ever, it is important to join together in whatever way we can, in solidarity with women here in the UK and in Gaza.

This year you can support our Women 4 Women campaign in one of three ways:

  1. Get together
Take time to connect with your friends and support the women of Gaza with a small fundraising and awareness raising event — maybe a virtual coffee morning, Zoom quiz night or a socially-distanced cocktail evening, whatever works for you and your friends — it’s all about solidarity. Take a look at our fundraising pack for a few ideas and contact katie@amostrust.org to work out how to make your idea a reality in these unusual times.

  2. Join our Rosy October webinar
Join us on Thursday 15th October at 6pm and meet our partners at Al Ahli Hospital. Hear about the breast cancer screening programme and how Coronavirus is affecting Gaza. And don’t forget to share this link (https://www.amostrust.org/amos-at-6-4) with your friends and family to help us raise awareness.

  3. Make a donation to our Women 4 Women campaign
And if an event feels too unrealistic this year but you would still like to help, then please make a donation to our Women 4 Women appeal hereJust £60 provides breast cancer screening for one woman in GazaPlease help us help as many women as possible gain access to screening today.

Screening:
A woman at Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City is screened for signs of breast cancer.

Screening is so simple and so effective — if we can work with women so that they can identify breast cancer early, we can treat it. We need to make screening normal for women and change traditional attitudes. At the moment too many die, they are scared that if diagnosed they will be shunned by their families. Suhaila Tarazi — Director of Al Ahli Arab Hospital, Gaza City
