The Story of Ruth

In the appeal, you will have heard the heart-breaking story of Ruth, who had lost all hope. Your gift could help women like Ruth find new meaning to life through kindness, encouragement and practical help.

Our partner Cheka Sana supports women like Ruth every day, restoring their dignity and supporting their practical and emotional needs.

Their approach is long-term and holistic. Ruth was supported practically with food, school uniform for her son and a micro-loan. But she also received emotional support and was taught how to exercise her rights as a woman — enabling her to have confidence in herself. You can listen again to Ruth’s story here.

We love this photo of Ruth selling silverfish that come from Lake Victoria. She was given a micro-loan and training to start her business and is now saving for her own home.

Long Term Support

Life for girls and young women on the streets is particularly hard and the support they need is challenging to provide; the only approach that works is building long-term and genuine relationships. We are committed to Cheka Sana’s tried and tested approach as it has the best long-term outcomes for women and girls.

About Amos Trust

We have worked with our partner in Tanzania, Cheka Sana, for five years but we also support similar projects in Burundi, South Africa and India. We meet children and young women on the streets, work with their families, challenge negative perceptions and advocate for their rights.

Amos Trust is a small creative human rights organisation committed to challenging injustice, building hope and creating positive change. We partner with vibrant grass-roots projects around the world that have unique local experience, expertise and connections.

We also work in Palestine and Nicaragua. If you would like to keep in touch, then you can sign up to our enewsletter here. If you would like to make a regular gift, then you can do so here.
