Just Walk to Jerusalem, re-imagined

In 2017 we walked from London to Jerusalem to apologise to the Palestinian people for Britain’s Balfour Declaration. In 2020 we are walking again to say “No!” to Israel’s annexation of up to 1/3 of the West Bank and to raise the money needed to keep calling for justice for Palestinians.

Step Out, Step Up and Stop Annexation

The record has to change.
The injustices cannot go on forever.

This summer Amos Trust will relive our Just Walk to Jerusalem
We want as many people as possible to join us, so that together, in our local areas, we walk the 3,000 miles it takes to reach Jerusalem.

Why are we walking again?

  • to show our solidarity with the Palestinian people
  • to say “No!” to Israel’s plans to annex up to 1/3 of the Palestinian West Bank
  • to raise the money needed to keep campaigning for justice for Palestinians

Background

In 2017 we walked from London to Jerusalem to apologise to the Palestinian people for the 100 years of suffering that Britain’s Balfour Declaration had caused. We called attention to the on-going injustices that Palestinians experience and said “sorry, this should not have happened — it’s time to change the record”. We walked alongside our partners in Palestine and pledged our commitment to “full equal rights for all who call the Holy Land home”.

But the record hasn’t changed. And this year the injustices against the Palestinian people are set to get worse. The Israeli government is starting its plan to annex up to 1/3 of the Occupied Palestinian Territories of the West Bank.

This is without the agreement of the Palestinian people who will once again lose their land, their rights and their freedom of movement. Annexation is illegal under international law and will lead to a permanent apartheid regime.

Governments around the world, including the UK, have already voiced their opposition — but Israel looks set to go ahead despite its claims to uphold democracy and the rule of law. So Amos Trust supporters are walking again to draw attention to yet another injustice against the Palestinian people.

We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.” Nelson Mandela

Together we’re going to walk 3,000 miles in our local areas and between us we will cover the distance from London to Jerusalem. We will do this to show our solidarity and to raise the money needed to keep campaigning, to keep the spotlight on the oppression of the Palestinian people and to keep finding creative new ways to build hope and challenge injustice.

Next steps

To help this we have recreated the 2017 route so that you can decide where you want to imagine walking. It might be somewhere you walked before or where you were planning on going on holiday. To help you set the scene, why not cook some local dishes from the country you’ve chosen, order the local drinks, or now that hairdressers have reopened you could visit your local Turkish Barber!
