I have experienced the spaces of hope,
The spaces of a moderate mercy. Experienced
The places which suddenly set
Into a random form: a lilac garden...
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light...
If anything propelled us forward on the 2017 Just Walk to Jerusalem, it was this poem by Derek Mahon. Stepping into the unknown, on a journey whose destination was completely out of our control.
“And if I speak of Paradise, then I’m speaking of my grandmother who told me to carry it always on my person, concealed, so no one else would know but me.” ‘A Portable Paradise’ by Roger Robinson.
“There’s really no such thing as the ‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.” Arundhati Roy
