Bethlehem Carol Evening
Saturday 29th November, 7pm
St James’s Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LL
Tickets: £10/£7 concessions
Kick off the Christmas season with Amos Trust’s Bethlehem Carol Evening at the beautiful St James’s Piccadilly — an uplifting evening of music, dance, poetry and film, celebrating hope and resilience from Palestine.
Join us for a special night featuring:
The young Dabke dancers and musicians from Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society, Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem;
Dr Abdelfattah Abusrour, Alrowwad’s inspirational founder and director;
Yousef Malak, a gifted young pianist from Gaza City;
Hala Hanina, social and political activist from Gaza and journalist at Palestine Deep Dive.
Carols will be led by the Choir of St Luke’s Church, West Holloway, directed by Justin Butcher. The evening will close with mulled wine and baklava.
All proceeds and donations will go towards Amos Trust’s Christmas Appeal, supporting Alrowwad’s work in the West Bank and trauma support and education programmes for children in Gaza.

About Alrowwad
Aida Refugee Camp, just outside Bethlehem, has been described as ‘the most tear-gassed place in the world.’ Since October 2023, the camp has faced daily incursions by Israeli occupying forces and its children and young people live under constant threat of violence, arrest and detention.
Founded in 1988 by Dr Abdelfattah Abusrour, Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society offers a creative lifeline through its Beautiful Resistance programme — teaching dabke dance, drama, music, film and photography, as well as English and maths. It provides a safe space where children feel seen, valued and free to express themselves and their culture.

About the performers
Yousef Malak is a largely self-taught pianist from Gaza City. After a handful of lessons at the Edward Said National Conservatory before the October 2023 genocide, he came to the UK in 2024 with his mother to join his sister, renowned Gazan artist, Malak Matar.
Hala Hanina is a social and political activist from Gaza who came to the UK in 2023 to complete her PhD. Before leaving Gaza, she led a highly successful campaign against gender-based violence. Now working as a journalist at Palestine Deep Dive, she recently returned from the Gaza Tribunal in Istanbul.
Vox Holloway began in 2009 as a community choral society for all — no auditions, no professions of faith or previous experience of choral singing required — with St Luke’s as its home. It includes participants from far and wide who wouldn’t necessarily consider setting foot in a church.
