Gaza Appeal

Amos Trust is not an aid organisation. But how can we stand in solidarity with people in Gaza and the West Bank if we do not do all that we can to support them.

On 18th March, Israel tore up what remained of the ceasefire agreement and launched a devastating military assault on Gaza. They have now killed 2,800 people and injured 7,800 more.

According to official figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 53,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since 7th October 2023, with 120,000 injured and many others missing and presumed dead.

Over 95% of homes in Gaza City have been destroyed or badly damaged and the infrastructure has been completely obliterated.

On 13th April, the IOF launched an attack on our partner, Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City. They gave a 20-minute warning to take patients outside (including intensive care patients) before two missiles hit the hospital.

Initial estimates place the cost of repairs at over $3 million and the hospital is now only able to operate at 40% capacity. This is one of a series of ongoing attacks on Gaza’s healthcare.

“It feels like the world will just watch us starve and say nothing.” Suhaila Tarazi, Director, Al Ahli Hospital

No food, water, fuel or medical aid has been allowed into Gaza since 22nd March. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC):

  • 93% of Gaza’s population (1.95 million people) are facing acute food shortages

  • 244,000 people (12%) are now enduring catastrophic hunger.

We continue to work with partners to distribute what food and water they can source, but food supplies in most areas are now running out.

Israel’s cabinet has also announced fresh plans to use the increased military assault and restricted aid supplies to force the population of Gaza into Rafa at its southern tip, with eventual plans for the ‘voluntary’ migration of Palestinians out of Gaza.

Meanwhile, in the Palestinian West Bank, 40,000 people remain homeless as a result of Israel’s major offensive on Jenin and Tulkarem. The number of demolitions of Palestinian property in Area C is double that of last year (Area C is 60% of the West Bank and is under full Israeli control).

Israel’s cabinet has also announced fresh plans to use the increased military assault and restricted aid supplies to force the population of Gaza into Rafa at its southern tip, with eventual plans for the ‘voluntary’ migration of Palestinians out of Gaza.

The number and severity of settler attacks on Palestinian communities also continue to rise. Since the ceasefire ended, 898 new checkpoints have been set up and 173 iron gates erected to further cut off Palestinian towns and cities, restricting movement and deepening the crisis.

Our appeal will continue to fund:

  • essential medical care

  • vital food and humanitarian aid

  • therapeutic trauma support for women and children

  • young writers documenting a genocide

  • small, inspirational projects focused on education, culture and resisting home demolitions.
