Food For Thought: Bethlehem-based chef and restaurateur, Fadi Kattan
— — — — — — — —

Fadi Kattan is a Bethlehem chef and restaurateur who has just opened a new restaurant in Notting Hill called Akub. We caught up with Fadi in his Bethlehem kitchen to talk about food, hospitality, culinary appropriation and his dream menu!

Our guest panellists were Ahmed Alnaouq from We Are Not Numbers in Gaza, and Sally Azzam, who established Liwan Cafe and Cultural Centre in Nazareth. Following the film, they discussed the points that Fadi raised in the film — particularly the importance of food and hospitality to Palestinian culture.

New Year. New Government. New Threat.
With Daoud Nasser and friends

Daoud Nasser from Tent of Nations in Palestine

Inspirational approach: Daoud Nasser from Tent of Nations in the West Bank
— — — — — — — —

Tent of Nations is a farm run by the Nasser family south of Bethlehem. The family are due to hear the outcome of a long-running court case to ratify the ownership of their land. The case has been in the courts for decades and has been delayed numerous times — despite them having all the necessary paperwork.

Amos has taken many people to visit the farm — to hear about their inspirational approach, the huge challenges they face, and their ‘refusal to be enemies’. We showed a recorded interview with Daoud Nasser and gave an update on the latest news.

We were then joined by Veronica Pasteur and Hamed from Amos partner HIRN (Hebron International Resources Network), who led a discussion about the current situation and shared the latest news from Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills and other communities who are facing imminent threat of their homes and villages being eradicated.

We also discussed the likely impact of the new Israeli government, particularly for people such as the Nassers who live in what is called ‘Area C’, which makes up over 60% of the Palestinian West Bank but is under total Israeli control.

Following the success of the On Location online exhibition in 2021, Amos Trust co-curated the Colours of Gaza exhibition of 50 new and established Gazan artists in partnership with the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem.

This webinar gave an insight into that exhibition and the art scene in Gaza, the challenges faced and the determination to overcome and capture the colour and hope of Gaza.

The webinar featured Mariam Salah, who showed at the Walled Off, the show’s co-curator, James Walmsley, Kat Khoury from PalArt Collective and Wisam Salsaa (pictured) from The Walled Off Hotel and Gallery in Bethlehem.

Summaqya: Enas Ghannam from We Are Not Numbers in Gaza
— — — — — — — —

Following two previous virtual tours of Gaza, we were delighted that Enas Ghannam (pictured) and the We Are Not Numbers team were able to join us once more to give us a unique snapshot into life in Gaza.

This time, they filmed the preparations of a Gazan wedding and we found out how ‘Summaqya’, the essential food found at all Gazan pre-wedding celebrations, is made. We were privileged to be invited into the lives of those whose celebrations do not fit into the usual news stories about Gaza and to celebrate with them.
