S3, E1: Pop Goes Palestine
Pop Goes Palestine
Thursday 28th January 2021
In 2017, the first Palestine Music Expo (PMX) took place in Ramallah on the West Bank, bringing together Palestinian artists and international music industry professionals to develop valuable networking opportunities and platforms for Palestinian musicians. The event was a huge success and continues to be the major annual event on the Palestine music calendar.
Palestinian pop is more than entertainment — it’s cultural resistance. In a context where Palestinian identity is constantly under threat, music becomes a way to assert presence, preserve language and tell stories that occupation tries to silence. PMX creates space for Palestinian artists to connect, collaborate and reach international audiences.
In this webinar, we talked Palestinian pop with Sarah Williams and Martin Goldschmidt, founders of Palestine Music Expo, and the unbelievably talented Palestinian singer-songwriter Rasha Nahas, who performed live for us. Together, they explored how Palestinian music builds networks, amplifies culture and inspires hope.
Our guests:
- Rasha Nahas: Palestinian singer-songwriter
- Sarah Williams: Co-founder, Palestine Music Expo
- Martin Goldschmidt: Co-founder, Palestine Music Expo
