Nicaragua is one of the countries most affected by climate change. While the world talks about the need for drastic action, the people of Nicaragua have been living with its escalating consequences for decades.

This webinar marked the launch of our new five-year programme with our partner CEPAD. We invested in their work in seven rural communities in Nicaragua’s dry belt — where long periods of drought are now followed by intense rain and flooding, and where hurricanes have become more frequent and more severe.

Communities on the frontline of climate breakdown didn’t cause the crisis, but they’re bearing its worst impacts. CEPAD’s work focuses on climate adaptation, helping communities become more resilient through sustainable agriculture, water management and disaster preparedness.

Emily Reyes, Harold Blandon and Olivia Lekel from CEPAD shared what climate change looks like on the ground in Nicaragua, what their communities need to survive and adapt, and why climate justice means supporting those least responsible but most affected.

Our guests:

  • Emily Reyes: CEPAD, Nicaragua
  • Harold Blandon: CEPAD, Nicaragua
  • Olivia Lekel: CEPAD, Nicaragua
