Watch again

For our second episode of our Dozen Tuesdays webinar season, we heard about what happens next for the unaccompanied young people and families who have made the crossing to the UK seeking a better life.

The journey to the UK is only the beginning. Once refugees and asylum seekers arrive, they face a hostile environment designed to deter, isolate and exhaust them. Unaccompanied children navigate the asylum system alone. Families live in limbo, unable to work, struggling with poverty and facing the constant threat of deportation. The trauma they’ve fled is compounded by the trauma of how they're treated upon arrival.

We were joined by Razia Shariff (pictured), from Kent Refugee Action Network, Domenica Pecoraro, Project Officer at Kent Refugee Project, and Dr Ana Draper from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust for a discussion about the current refugee crisis, the realities facing those who arrive and what support looks like on the ground.

Our guests:

  • Razia Shariff - Kent Refugee Action Network
  • Domenica Pecoraro - Project Officer, Kent Refugee Project
  • Dr Ana Draper - Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust
