S5, E4: Put Me Back On My Bike

Put Me Back On My Bike

Watch again

Twelve months earlier, we met Alaa al-Dali, an Olympic hopeful cyclist whose leg was shot to pieces by an Israeli sniper on 30th March 2018 during the Great March of Return protests. Back then, we heard of his desire to get back on his bike and to create a team of para-cyclists from Gaza to represent Palestine at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

Twelve months on, the Gaza Sunbirds had started their training. Alaa’s determination to cycle again — and to bring other disabled athletes with him — proved that resilience isn’t just about surviving, it’s about refusing to let occupation take your dreams.

In this webinar, we were joined by Alaa, Moe Zarour from the Palestine Riders Mountain Bike Club and Ellen Logan from the Big Ride for Palestine. Together, they explored what cycling means under occupation, how sport becomes resistance and why supporting Palestinian athletes matters.

Our guests:

  • Alaa al-Dali: Founder, Gaza Sunbirds
  • Moe Zarour: Palestine Riders Mountain Bike Club and Amari Bike Camp, Ramallah
  • Ellen Logan: The Big Ride for Palestine
